Are Kajol and Karan heading toward splitsville?

They are known as the Golden Trio Kajol, Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. The threesome are the best of buddies and often create cinema magic together. But Karan’s latest venture 'My Name Is Khan', and Kajol’s motherly instincts are threatening to cause a rift in the Kajol/Karan relationship.

Insiders report that Karan is currently busy shooting parts of the film with 'Slumdog Millionaire' star Tanay Chheda in Mumbai’s Borivilli area. He’s hoping to plan a shoot schedule in the US once Shah Rukh gets back from his IPL2 commitments. But Kajol is apparently not very thrilled with the idea of going abroad because she would have to leave her daughter Nysa back home. The star’s daughter has started school, and while Kajol had no problems with it when she was shooting in Mumbai, she’s having a tough time separating herself from her child.

Karan, on the other hand is adamant that the planned shoot in US go ahead as per schedule and expects Kajol to understand his predicament. In this tug of war, we wonder what Shah Rukh is going to do!

I went to South Africa to cheer for Delhi Daredevils: Akshay

Mumbai, April 25 (IANS) Akshay Kumar, who vowed not to be a part of any Indian Premier League (IPL) game in South Africa, was recently seen at a match with friend Preity Zinta. The actor says he went to Cape Town just to cheer for the Delhi Daredevils.

Akshay was seen at the IPL match between Delhi Daredevils and Preity Zinta-owned Kings XI Punjab last Sunday. Earlier, he had refused to be a part of the match even though pals Preity Zinta and Shilpa Shetty own two teams in the IPL.

"I had no intentions of going. But the Delhi Daredevils did it. Although this year I'm no longer professionally or financially associated with the team I had to go for their sake to the IPL match on Sunday. There I met up with my buddy Preity Zinta and naturally the cameras went berserk. So what if her team was playing against the Delhi Daredevils? Off the field we're still the best of friends. But that's it. I won't be attending any of the other matches," Akshay said.

Akshay is now in Singapore to resume the shooting of Priyadarshan's "Dan Dana Dan".

"First it was Preity's darshan, now I go for Priyadarshan," he said.

"Somehow I've always had one Darshan or the other in my life," he quipped about the contribution of Suneel and Dharmesh Darshan and Priyadarshan to his career.

Shah Rukh's smoking act at IPL match ruffles anti-smoking lobby

Panaji, April 25 (IANS) Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's smoking act during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match April 21 has not gone down well with the anti-smoking lobby which is trying to ensure that television footage of celebrities smoking should not be broadcast.

The National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) said in a statement issued here Saturday that its counterpart South African National Council Against Smoking (NCAS) is lobbying with the official broadcasters to ensure that footage of smoking, especially by celebrities, should not be broadcast.

"We have sent the details to Supersport, who are the official broadcasters of the IPL and the NCAS is in the process of soliciting an agreement that they will not show anyone smoking," NCAS's convener Peter Ucko informed NOTE Friday.

NCAS has said that television footage showing icons smoking dangerously increases the chances of children and other non smokers picking up the habit as they try to emulate their heroes.

NCAS, in its letter to NOTE, further said that while smoking in public places is still not banned in South Africa, the department of health there was very active in lobbying for the concept of no smoking in public places.

"If Khan does it again we will ask the management to caution him, or we will seek his removal from the stadium," the press note states.

The NCAS has also assured that they would lobby with the chief executive officer of the Wandereres stadium Alam Kourie to enforce the 'no smoking in enclosed areas' law.

"We have also asked the stadium management to make no smoking announcements through the match and during drinks breaks."

Manchester United in talks with Kaka

Manchester United are reported to have held talks with AC Milan playmaker Kaka over a potential summer move to Old Trafford as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo should the Portuguese leave for Real Madrid.

It is understood that the representatives for the 27-year-old Brazilian met with United officials to discuss personal terms, which in wages alone could earn the player £35m over five years.

The Sun report a source close to Kaka as saying: ''It was a very positive meeting, although nothing was agreed.

''The player wants a five-year contract and wages of £135,000 a week. He is very keen to join United and these are figures that are within United's pay structure. It's up to them what happens now.''

No transfer fee was discussed however Milan could expect to receive at least £70m despite the prevailing economic climate - after all in January Kaka was subject to a £100m transfer bid from Manchester City.

Although United's parent company recently reported debts in excess of £600m the club could afford a move for Kaka if they decide to reinvest the cash they would receive for Ronaldo, who at the least would command a fee in the region of £70m.

While Kaka is understood to have baulked at the possibility of a move to the City of Manchester Stadium earlier this year, Old Trafford is a different proposition, as the Brazilian has previously admitted when he said: ''They have some great players in Giggs and Scholes and especially Wayne Rooney.

Real to appeal Pepe's ban

Real Madrid are planning to appeal the 10-match ban inflicted on their Portuguese international Pepe for his violent outburst against two Getafe players in a league game this week.

The suspension, handed down Friday by the Spanish Football Federation, will rule the 26-year-old Brazilian-born player out of Real's last six league games of the season, including next weekend's home game against arch rivals and league leaders Barcelona.

"What a catastrophe!" Real president Vincente Boluda said in a report in Saturday's Marca sports daily.

"The punishment doesn't match what happened on the pitch" added Boluda who said the club were planning to appeal the decision.

Pepe was sent off during Real's 3-2 win at home over Getafe on Tuesday after he shoved Francisco Casquero to the ground to concede a late penalty and then brutally stamped on the midfielder several times.

He then palmed the angry Juan Albin in the face in the ensuing melee and insulted the referee.

Real, the defending Spanish champions, are in second place in the league with 75 points, six points behind leaders Barcelona.

Tamim, Tk 7.7 lakh boy

The table (top) shows the price tag of Tamim Iqbal during the auction of the Port-City Cricket League (PCL) while models display the flags of the eight participating teams at the Chittagong Club yesterday.Photo:

Amid colours, deafening sounds and nonstop flashing of lights, auction of 48 cricketers for the country's first-ever Twenty20 tournament, the PCL (Port-city Cricket League) 2009, was held yesterday at Chittagong Club auditorium with dashing Tigers opener and local boy Tamim Iqbal stealing the show with a whopping Tk 7.70 lakh price.

The nine-day tournament is scheduled to begin at the MA Aziz Stadium on May 2 and the final will be held on May 10.

The one-and-half hour gripping auction got off with a buzz when Ormaan Rafay Nizam, an experienced international tea auctioneer, pronounced the name of one of the two most highly-rated (Category A+) players -- Tamim -- at the very outset at around 11.40am.

Representatives from Chittagong Mohammedan, Chittagong Brothers and Chittagong Abahani confronted in the first bidding of the day for around three minutes before Abahani finally got hold of Tamim for Tk 7.70 lakh against his base price of Tk 30,000.

For the aggressive left-hander, Mohammedan offered Tk 1.30 lakh while Brothers ended their bid on Tk 7.00 lakh.

"I'm really surprised. My expectation was Tk 2 lakh," said a visibly amazed Tamim in his instant reaction.

"I want to thank the organisers who have taken the initiatives to arrange this kind of tournament which will encourage the young players. Others can learn from the Chittagong organisers. I am really delighted that I can play a Twenty20 tournament before the World T20. Right at the moment I am only thinking about the T20 World Cup [in England in June]," he added.

With Tamim opening the floodgates to the auction, the concourse was expecting similar battle of bidding to follow as far as price was concerned. But what happened afterwards surprised many as none of the 47 remaining cricketers could even breathe close to Tamim, albeit there was several intense bidding involving few stars.

The next best price was Tk 1.70 lakh for Dhaka Mohammedan all-rounder Sohrawordi Shuvo against his base price of Tk 20,000 and Pirates of Chittagong, a team of Continental Group in the PCL, bought him by beating another business group's (MEB Group) team Dada Warriors after a two-minute breathtaking battle. Dada breathed last at Tk 1.60 lakh for Shuvo.

Tamim and Shuvo apart, only two more cricketers were able to take their value beyond six digits -- Zunaed Siddiqui of Surjo Torun and Abdur Razzak of Partex. Dada Warriors this time conquered Zunaed, whose base price was Tk 20,000, for Tk 1.31 lakh in a three-minute bidding overpowering Brothers who went upto Tk 1.21 lakh for him. However, Brothers didn't hesitate to buy national left-arm spinner Razzak, the only other Category A+ player with base price of Tk 30 thousand after Tamim, for Tk 1.10 lakh defeating Dhaka Sports Tigers of Laxmipur, who offered Tk 1.00 lakh.

The 'value' or 'fate' of some well-known faces, who have vast experience of playing Test and ODIs, appeared as a stunning feature in the auction. The likes of Rajin Saleh (Surjo Torun), Javed Omar (Bangladesh Biman), Nazmul Hossain (Abahani) and Rubel Hossain (Gazi Tank) had to wait until the second round of bidding as they remained 'unsold' in the first!

Rajin was later sold for Tk 21,000, just six thousand taka up from his base price, to Dhaka Sports. Chittagong Mohammedan came forward to buy Javed at his base price of Tk 8,000 while Nazmul and Rubel were also sold at their base prices, Tk 20,000, and both of them went to Dada Warriors.

Among other stars Syed Rasel, Talha Jubair, Taposh Ghosh, Mushfiqur Rahim and Shahadat Hossain made very poor impression in the auction as none of the eight participating teams showed that much interest in them as far as money was concerned! They were however sold out in quick time with a very low price.

Shahadat and Mushfiqur took only 23 seconds each, Rasel 18 seconds, Talha 29 seconds and Tapas 15 seconds to be sold out to their respective teams -- Dada Warriors (Tk 30,000), Ispahani (Tk 26,000), Abahani (Tk 26,000 and Tk 15,000) and Dhaka Sports (Tk 8,000) respectively.

Officials of all eight participating teams -- Chittagong Mohammedan Sporting Club, Chittagong Brothers Union, Chittagong Abahani Ltd, Ispahani Ltd, Dada Warriors, Top Sports, Dhaka Sports Tigers and Pirates of Chittagong -- were present at the auction venue.

Chittagong Divisional Commissioner and president of Chittagong Divisional Krira Sangstha, which is organising the event, MAN Siddique formally inaugurated the auction.

Lawmaker and Chittagong Abahani president Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner Fariduddin Ahmed Chowdhury, PCL Organising Committee Chairman AZM Nasiruddin, chief coordinator and BCB member Sirajuddin Md Alamgir, vice-president Ali Abbas and satellite TV channel ATN Bangla's head of programme Nowajesh Ali Khan were present at the auction.

ICC to help Pakistan

Cricket's governing body Saturday pledged support for cricket-deprived Pakistan after the troubled country was stripped of its share of 2011 World Cup matches because of security fears.

The promise came during a meeting between Pakistan's sports minister Pir Aftab Shah Jilani and officials from the International Cricket Council (ICC) here on Friday.

Jilani said he had made clear the disappointment caused by the ICC's decision to strip Pakistan of its 14 World Cup matches over the uncertain security situation there.

"I conveyed the displeasure of the Pakistani fans, and although we did not agree on every point... I am confident the ICC is committed to making sure international cricket will flourish again in Pakistan," said Jilani.

India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will now host the mega event in two years' time, leaving Pakistan in further sporting wilderness.

The question of stripping Pakistan of its World Cup matches was raised after March's attacks on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore, which dented the already troubled country's reputation as sporting venue.

Even before the Lahore attacks, which killed eight policemen and left seven Sri Lankan players and their assistant coach injured, teams had been refusing to travel to Pakistan over security fears.

Australia, who have not toured Pakistan since 1998, forced their hosts to play their current series at the neutral venues of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Jilani said ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat explained the decision-making process and the reasons behind the decision.

"I was briefed about the process and now I am confident the ICC is committed to the future success of Pakistan cricket, because we are an important member of the community," said Jilani.

"I know the ICC will not let Pakistan cricket fall back during this difficult time. Cricket cannot be revived in Pakistan without the ICC and they are determined to make sure the game survives and thrives in our country," said the minister.

Lorgat said the ICC was aware how much of a blow the decision had been to Pakistan and its fans.

"We fully understand the disappointment felt by Pakistani fans, players and officials, and we will do everything possible to support Pakistan," he said.

"The decision was not taken lightly or hastily. Our number-one priority is to deliver a safe, secure and successful event and the uncertainty created by events within Pakistan created a huge question mark," said Lorgat.

"The important thing for us now is to work out how we can prevent the game from suffering more than it has to. Every ICC Member agrees that Pakistan is an important member.

"We want teams to return to play cricket in Pakistan as soon as possible and we are willing to assist the Pakistan Cricket Board to prepare for that time."

Taibu cleared of charges

Tatenda Taibu has been acquitted of assaulting Zimbabwe Cricket's general finance manager. The Harare Magistrates' Court found "glaring inconsistencies" in the prosecution's evidence, describing it as discredited and unreliable.

Taibu had been charged with assaulting Esther Lupepe, allegedly over payments owed to him by ZC. But Tapiwa Godzi, the magistrate, said the court was still in doubt as to how the assault was alleged to have been perpetrated. "It's either this case was fabricated or the testimony of the witnesses is grossly exaggerated to the extent of making it unbelievable," Godzi said. "In the premises, the application for discharge at the close of the State's case is hereby granted. The accused is accordingly found not guilty and acquitted. It would be futile to put the accused person to his defence."

Taibu had protested his innocence throughout the proceeding, and countered that the accusation is part of a wider plot by ZC to silence him from going public over concerns of the board's handling of funds and the poor incomes of players.

Taibu has had a fractious relationship with senior board officials since he walked out in 2005 after alleging threats had been made against his family. He subsequently returned, but following the accusations by Lupepe he was only persuaded at the last minute to join the national squad when it headed to Canada for a quadrangular Twenty20 tournament.

Deccan ride on Gibbs

A spinning masterclass from Pragyan Ojha and disciplined back-up from Venugopal Rao ensured Deccan Chargers consolidated their position at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) table with a 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians here on Saturday.

Chasing 169, Mumbai looked destined for victory when they entered the final 10 overs of their innings needing 85 to win with nine wickets in hand and star batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and JP Duminy at the crease.

But Ojha's 3-21 swung the match as he had Tendulkar caught at short extra cover by Herschelle Gibbs for 36, then removed Shikhar Dhawan and Duminy (47) in consecutive overs.

"I was nervous coming into the match, but I know that if I work hard I can do it, and at the end of the day I did it for my team," said Ojha.

Fellow spinner Rao squeezed the batsmen at the other end, allowing just 21 runs from his first three overs as Mumbai managed a meagre 24 runs in the five overs after the 'strategy break'.

Dwayne Bravo and Harbhajan Singh led spirited resistance, but when Fidel Edwards removed fellow West Indian Bravo for 21, Mumbai's fate was sealed and they ended their innings on 156-7.

An opening stand of 63 between Adam Gilchrist and Gibbs set Chargers up for a big total after they won the toss and elected to bat under sunny Kingsmead skies.

Even after Gilchrist had fallen for 35 to the bowling of Bravo, Gibbs continued the assault on Mumbai's bowlers with Dwayne Smith as Deccan reached 124-1 in the 13th over.

But when Smith was bowled by Sanath Jayasuriya for 35, his dismissal instigated a collapse and none of the batsmen who followed reached double figures.

Top scorer Gibbs was run out for a feisty 58 as Deccan made 168-8 in 20 overs.

SCORES IN BRIEF
DECCAN CHARGERS:
168 for 9 wickets (Gibbs 58, Gilchrist 35, Smith 35; Malinga 3-19, Bravo 3-34)
MUMBAI INDIANS: 156 for 7 (Duminy 47, Tendulkar 36, Bravo 21, Harbhajan 20; Ojha 3-21, Edwards 2-27, RP Singh 2-27)
Result: Deccan Chargers won by 12 runs.
Man-of-the-match: Pragyan Ojha.

Supermodel Gisele Bundchen marries footballer Tom Brady

Los Angeles, Feb 27 (DPA) Brazilian model Gisele Bundchen and American football star Tom Brady have tied the knot in an intimate California ceremony, news reports said.

The couple married Thursday in a Catholic service in Santa Monica with only close family and friends attending, according to the celebrity news site Usmagazine.com.

The bride, 28, wore a strapless ivory lace gown by Dolce and Gabbana while her three dogs wore matching floral lace collars.

There was no official confirmation from the couple's spokesmen.

Bundchen and Brady, 31, the quarterback for the New England Patriots, have been an item for the past two years, their relationship producing much material for celebrity magazines.

The three-time Superbowl champion split from his last girlfriend, actress Bridget Moynahan, then heavily pregnant, shortly before his relationship with Bundchen became public.

Brady, however, managed to repair his tarnished image by being a devoted dad to now-2-year-old John Edward Thomas Moynahan.

Bundchen, longtime on-off girlfriend of Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, split from the Titanic actor in 2005.

Media speculation over a possible engagement ran wild over the past months. Bundchen denied reports that Brady proposed during a trip in a private jet around Christmas.

In late 2008, the couple bought an $11 million villa in Los Angeles' upmarket Brentwood neighbourhood.

Freida Pinto among world's top 10 sexiest women

London, April 23 (IANS) "Slumdog Millionaire" star Freida Pinto appeared in the chart of world's sexiest women for the first time in the British men's lifestyle magazine FHM.

She debuted in at the 10th position in the magazine while singer Cherly Cole topped the list, reports thesun.co.uk.

Last month, Pinto was also voted among the top five Hollywood sexiest women by men's magazine Details.

The "Girls aloud" beauty Cole, 25, knocked last year's winner, actress Megan Fox, to the second place in FHM sexiest women list. Cole's victory is the first for a Britisher in three years.

Other additions to the chart included French President Nicolas Sarkozy's wife Carla Bruni, who was voted 40th sexiest woman in the world.

Almost 10 million votes were cast by FHM readers worldwide for the poll.

Who is Priyanka Chopra's mystery boyfriend?

Mumbai, April 25 (IANS) She has been linked with three actors - Hurman S. Baweja, Shahid Kapur and Hollywood star Gerard Butler of "300" fame - all within a span of one year, but the mystery behind Bollywood's svelte actress Priyanka Chopra's actual love interest continues.

The rumour mills started working overtime after Butler, whom she met at the launch of the Atlantis hotel in Dubai last year, was quoted as saying in a leading daily: "I don't mind getting married to an Indian girl. Too bad Priyanka already has a boyfriend".

Now, who that boyfriend is, remains to be known.

Though rumours of a romantic liaison between Shahid and Priyanka have been in the grapevine lately after their joint appearance at filmmaker Tarun Mansukhani's birthday party in Mumbai last week, neither has confirmed the development.

The two will be seen together in Vishal Bharadwaj's "Kaminay".

"Priyanka has always maintained silence on her private affairs. Till date, she has never gone public about her personal life and she will continue to do so," a source close to the actress told IANS.

Even when news of her affair with her "Love Story 2050" co-star Hurman was doing the rounds, Priyanka remained politically correct. While Hurman was very vocal about their relationship as well as their break-up, the supermodel-turned-actress chose not to speak about it.

Now, the news about the friendship between Priyanka and Butler, who is currently in Jaipur, is raising eyebrows.

But the source clarifies: "He (Butler) is in Jaipur with four of his friends as part of an India tour.

"He came to Jaipur and knew that Priyanka was shooting and staying at Shiv Vilas for her film 'What's Your Rashee?'. So he came to the sets to meet her as they are good friends and to see what an Indian film shoot looks like. He also met all important people on the sets and was also introduced to Ashutosh (Gowariker) and Hurman. Priyanka and him are just friends only," the source said.

Butler, who played the role of King Spartan in "300", has also been linked to former "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston, which he has denied.

Shabana puts on 25 kg for Gurinder Chaddha's movie

By Subhash K. Jha

Mumbai, April 25 (IANS) She had shaved her head for Deepa Mehta's "Water" though she wasn't in the final film that released, and had put on a lot of weight to look like a madame in a brothel for Shyam Benegal's "Mandi". Now veteran actress Shabana Azmi has once again put on 25 kg for Gurinder Chaddha's "It's A Wonderful Afterlife".

"Yes, you've heard right. I have put on 25 kg and I'm waddling around unrecognisable to all except those who know who I am," Shabana told IANS over phone from London.

Hugely overweight, Shabana is said to be having the time of her life playing a hysterical Punjabi woman in the movie.

In fact, those who saw Shabana at the Filmfare Awards were wondering what on earth was wrong with her. But Shabana had begun preparing for her part two months ago, tucking into those sinful calorie-enhancing goodies with a relish that only the committed actor in her could enjoy.

This is the look that she must hold in place for the next month-and-a-half. For Shabana, preparation is all.

The experience of working with Gurinder Chaddha is enriching for Shabana.

"Gurinder is in control without being bossy, which is a remarkable quality in a director," she said.

Javed Akhtar has also joined Shabana in London.

"He's here for the London Book Fair. My sister-in-law Tanvi and two of my close friends are coming this weekend. So I'm having a ball," she said.

PCB looks to move on

Nearly a week after the ICC's decision to move away the 2011 World Cup from Pakistan and effectively rule out international cricket in the country due to security concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is weighing up options of how to move on. Though officially there has been silence from the board -- apart from filing an official protest to the decision with the ICC -- contact has been maintained with the ICC hierarchy on how best to proceed and two options on where Pakistan will play its designated 'home' cricket from now have become clear.

Inter out of Italian Cup

Inter Milan star Zlatan Ibrahimovic reacts after missing a goal during their Italian Cup semifinal against Sampdoria at San Siro on Thursday.Photo: AFP

Serie A leaders Inter Milan were knocked out of the Italian Cup on Thursday when a 1-0 semifinal second leg win over Sampdoria fell short of overturning a 3-0 deficit from the teams' first meeting.

In the May 13 final in Rome, Sampdoria will face Lazio who completed a 4-2 aggregate win over Juventus on Wednesday.

With three goals to make up, Inter coach Jose Mourinho played three strikers with Mario Balotelli, Julio Cruz and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all starting.

It was Ibrahimovic who was to score the only goal of the second leg with a superb 27th-minute volley although the Swedish international was unfortunate not have celebrated a second when he saw a 37th-minute lob come back off the post.

Sampdoria had their chances with Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini both denied by good saves from Julio Cesar.

Inter can now turn their attentions to clinching the league title.

They have a 10-point lead with just six games left to play.

Helal also informed that BFF has received financial support from Citycell, Nokia, Premier Bank and Aamra Network to defray other expenses apart from the central expenses which are borne by AFC.

To make the tournament a success BFF has carried out an extensive publicity over the last few days, which included decorated horse-drawn carriages, leaflets with tournament fixtures at different parts of the city.

BFF has also decided to hand over the unclaimed car of the Super Cup prize to a lucky spectator through a lottery of entry tickets of the opening day's matches of the AFC Challenge Cup.

Pakistan restricted

Pakistan opener Salman Butt, who hit team highest 57, goes on the front foot to play defensively during the second one-day international against Australia at the Dubai Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Australian bowlers unleashed tight line and length to fold Pakistan's innings at 207 in 46.2 overs in the second day-night one-day international here at the Dubai cricket Stadium on Friday.

Off-spinner Nathan Hauritz took 3-41, while pacemen James Hopes and Andrew Symonds chipped in with two wickets apiece as Pakistan's batsmen struggled on a slow paced pitch after captain Younis Khan won the toss and decided to bat.

Pakistan leads the five-match one-day series 1-0 following their four-wicket win in the first match on Wednesday.

Opener Salman Butt top-scored with a resolute 57 while Shahid Afridi hit a 40-ball 41 to anchor the innings after Hauritz removed the middle order with some accurate off-spin.

Butt held one end intact after Pakistan lost debutant opener Ahmed Shahzad (four) in the third over. Younis (28) helped Butt add 53 for the second wicket before edging paceman Ben Laughlin to wicketkeeper Brad Haddin.

Hauritz further derailed the Pakistan innings by dismissing Shoaib Malik (seven) and Misbahul Haq (12) in quick succession before removing a dangerous looking Butt in the 34th over.

Butt hit six boundaries during his snail-paced 112-ball knock.

Hauritz could have had a fourth wicket and blown away Pakistan for a much lower total had Ben Laughlin held on to a high catch from Afridi when the batsman was on only three.

Afridi, who was man-of-the-match for his career-best 6-38 on Wednesday, fully capitalised on the chance and hit five boundaries and a six to help Pakistan score 39 in the batting power play.

Shoaib Akhtar used the long handle effectively, hitting four boundaries and a six off to make a fiery 14-ball 25.

Australia made three changes from their Wednesday line-up, leaving out pacemen Stuart Clark and Ben Hilfenhaus, and opener Shaun Marsh. They brought in David Hussey, Doug Bollinger and Ben Laughlin.

Pakistan included Shahzad in place of injured Nasir Jamshed.

Sachin feels like 16 on 36th birthday

Arguably cricket's biggest icon, Sachin Tendulkar turned 36 on Friday and said he still feels like a boy of 16.

The right-hander, bracketed in the same league with the legendary Don Bradman, is currently leading the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League in South Africa.

"I feel like 16. I think it's the good wishes and blessings that count," he said.

"It's not about breaking records. It's about winning matches. It's a terrific feeling to win and that's what matters," Tendulkar said after cutting the birthday cake in company of his Mumbai Indians teammates.

Worshipped in India and equally revered across the world, Tendulkar made his debut at 16 against Pakistan before growing into a batsman who has given nightmares to bowlers across the cricketing globe.

Tendulkar said his career stats, which show more than 12,000 Test and over 16,000 ODI runs don't matter much in comparison to being part of a winning team.

"Stats are merely a reflection of an individual's contribution to the team. Ultimately it's a team sport and though individual performances matter, it's more about winning matches," he said.

Tendulkar will be joined by his wife and kids in the birthday celebrations here in Durban.

His childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar on Thursday said nothing has changed in his iconic ward in last over two decades, not even his style of playing.

"He used to attack and still go after the bowlers. He never got terrorised by any bowler in the world. What has changed, nothing. He is still like this," Achrekar told PTI-Bhasha on the eve of Tendulkar's birthday.

"He is the same Sachin for me. He is very busy but never forgets to meet me and talk about cricket, cricket and cricket. Cricket is his passion and I wish him on his birthday that this passion remains the same," he said.

The 78-year-old Archrekar felt Tendulkar, who debuted as 16-year-old in 1989, could play in the 2011 World Cup.

"He can play World Cup 2011. He has one unfulfilled dream to win the World Cup. So is mine," said the coach.

Tendulkar is the world's leading run scorer with 12,773 runs from 159 Tests and 16,684 in 425 ODI, besides holding an umpteen number of cricketing records.

Tendulkar, who was recently immortalised in the Madam Tussaud's wax museum, had said he had three teachers in his life -- his father, brother and coach Achrekar.

It's final – Shilpa Shetty to wed early next year

Much has been speculated about the wedding of Shilpa Shetty to her boyfriend Raj Kundra.

While both Shilpa and Raj have admitted in the past that they do plan to marry someday, the wedding date was never revealed; not until now, that is.

The couple is presently in South Africa for the ongoing IPL tournament and is supporting the Rajasthan Royals team in which they have a stake. While their team hasn’t been off to a good start – losing the first match and getting just a point in the second rain-washed match – Shilpa and Raj have a reason to cheer.

Their respective mothers have reportedly been bonding quite well in Cape Town and have even been planning the couple’s marriage.

Shilpa admits that the match (not the cricket one) has been fixed and the wedding will happen early in 2010, even though she hasn’t disclosed the exact date yet.

In fact, even though the wedding is still many months away, the lovebirds have already decided their nests. In Mumbai, the couple will stay at Shilpa’s Ruia Park bungalow. In London, Raj has bought a sprawling house at St. Georges Hill in Weybridge, where Raj’s parents will also be staying with the couple after their marriage.

Moreover, they have also planned rooms for children in the house.

Deepika Padukone elegant on Filmfare

Deepika Padukone exudes elegance as the cover-girl for Filmfare’s latest edition.

The actress recently launched the magazine’s second issue of April at Vie Lounge, Mumbai. She was eye-catchingly dressed in an off-shoulder, blue and white short dress at the event.

For the cover, Deepika is seen wearing a satin dress in off-white and royal blue colour combination. What is remarkable about the dress is its long frilly ruffled neck-line. Deepika’s hair is done in a classic way, like that of a female from the Victorian era. The cover page has a pale hue and is designed by Subhash. The photo shoot is done by ace advertising and fashion photographer Jatin Kampani.

Emma Watson was destined to play Hermione?

“I wanted it so badly” says Emma Watson when talking of the role of Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films. Emma made that remark during an in depth interview in the May edition of Interview magazine, of which she also graces the cover.

In the interview, Emma reveals much more, including how nervous she was that she wouldn't get the part of Hermione during auditions, some of the things she has done with her money, admitting that she was a massive fan of the Harry Potter books prior to auditioning, and much more!

When replying to the follow up question of why she wanted that role ‘so badly’ Emma replied:

“I loved the books—I was a massive fan. I just felt like that part belonged to me. I know that sounds crazy, but from that first audition, I always knew. At the beginning, they were casting the other characters as well—but I always knew I was going out for Hermione. She came so naturally to me. Maybe so much of myself at the time was similar to her. Of course, all this terrified my parents—there were literally thousands and thousands of girls going out for the audition, and my parents were anxious about what I would do if I didn’t get it.”

As for what Emma Watson spent her hard earned cash on, “Hmm . . . I got myself a laptop. I took my dad to Tuscany. He works so hard, my dad, so I rang up his secretary and asked when he was free, and I booked us a holiday. What else? Oh, I got myself a car.”

Miss Watson who recently turned 19 was given access to her £10.5 million fortune for the first time upon her 18th birthday after agreeing to enroll on a crash course on being a multi-millionaire. She then had to consent to have her spending carefully scrutinised by four senior managers at Coutts, bankers for the Queen.

With two more Harry Potter films in the works and such great financial planning we can see a golden future ahead for both Emma and Hermione.

Bollywood stars add glamour to Bengal campaign

Kolkata, April 20 (IANS) Adding glamour to the Lok Sabha campaign, a host of Bollywood celebrities has descended on West Bengal to woo the electorate.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, in the fray from Jangipur in Murshidabad district, roped in veteran star Mithun Chakraborty to sway the voters in the remote rural constituency last weekend.

The news of Mithun's arrival created a sensation among the public, leading to a near-stampede at the venues.

Amidst the pandemonium, Mukherjee himself could not reach one of the meeting sites, unable to pass through the milling crowd.

"I have come here because I have lot of respect for Pranabda," Mithun said, as the crowd seemed to go berserk at the sight of their hero.

"I want Pranabda to occupy a high post after the elections," Mithun said, triggering spontaneous applause from the audience.

Bengal's own Mithun also rushed to Krishnanagar in Nadia district to canvas for fellow film actor and Trinamool Congress candidate Tapas Pal Sunday and again received an enthusiastic response.

Former glamour queen Zeenat Aman trudged to Purulia and proved a big crowd puller during a roadshow for Congress nominee Shantiram Mahato.

People scaled walls, crowded rooftops and windows for a glimpse of the actress, once the heartthrob of the youth for her sizzling performances in films like "Qurbani", "Satyam Shivam Sundaram", and "Hare Rama Hare Krishna".

Last week Trinamool Congress candidate from Kolkata North Sudip Bandopadhyay brought in Mumbai actors like Asrani and Prem Chopra.

Jackie Chan faces backlash over China freedom remarks

Hong Kong, April 21 (DPA) Students and politicians in Hong Kong Tuesday hit out at comments by movie star Jackie Chan that Chinese people should be controlled and that too much freedom could harm China.

The "Rush-Hour" star sparked a growing controversy by saying at a business forum Saturday that freedoms had made Hong Kong and Taiwan "chaotic" and adding: "We Chinese need to be controlled."

The 55-year-old actor has drawn a furious backlash from university students in his home city Hong Kong who condemned the comments and demanded an apology.

"We find it most ironic that Mr Chan was speaking about creative film-making in Hong Kong, which hangs on the very spirit of the freedoms we now enjoy," the students said in a statement.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board has received 17 complaints from people asking for Chan to be dumped as the former British colony's tourism ambassador.

Leung Chun-ying, convenor of Hong Kong's executive council, told reporters Tuesday that people in Hong Kong enjoyed "more freedom than most" but insisted they did not abuse the freedoms they were given.

Internet forums set up condemning Chan's remarks attracted thousands of supporters with one forum urging him to go to North Korea if he did not enjoy excessive freedoms.

Chan, 55, made his remarks at the Boao Economic Forum on the southern Chinese island of Hainan, an event attended by senior Communist Party officials including Prime Minister Wen Jiabao.

The movie star appeared to take an increasingly pro-China line in recent years, performing in both the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing Olympics and taking a senior role in the China Film Association.

Chan claims his remarks have been taken out of context and was referring to freedom in the entertainment industry and not to freedoms in Chinese society as a whole.

Will Aamir say yes to Madame's waxing this time?

With the news about Sachin Tendulkar at the Madame Tussauds just a few days old, speculations are rife as to who the next entrant would be. And media as usual is agog with the buzz that it would most probably be the 'Perfectionist' Khan, Aamir Khan. Even Bobby Khan, who manages the Bollywood section in London, as well as the Indian franchise of the museum (under Bobby Khan Holdings), has gone on record to say that Aamir would indeed be the first choice. However what everyone conveniently forgot was that Aamir had refused to be waxed when the offer was made to him a year or so back.

CHECK OUT: Saif met Aamir over multiplex issue

Well, those with sharp memories and a keen interest in Bollywood affairs would remember that after the unveiling of Shah Rukh Khan's statue in London, Aamir Khan was offered to be waxed, and he refused. Sources close to Aamir Khan (read relatives) cited personal beliefs (about being made into statue!) as the reason behind the refusal!

However, it remains to be seen whether Aamir would give in to the temptation this time, and especially if his name comes up in a poll /consensus, as Bobby Khan has planned.

May be Aamir would say yes to keep his fans and those who vote for his statue to be waxed happy. But this is hypothetical and it remains to be seen as to how things would unfold. Till that time keep tuned to your favourite portal for more on the subject.

Cops: No Shutterbugs Involved in Madonna Mishap

Was Madonna just horsing around?

Despite her rep's claim that a pesky paparazzo was to blame for Madonna's weekend fall from a horse in the Hamptons, the officers who responded to the scene said the Material One made no mention of any shutterbug involvement.

"She was a victim of a fall from a horse. We have no mention of the paparazzi," Officer Chris Brenner, a spokesman for the Southampton Village Police Department, tells E! News. "We got a call that the subject fell off the horse and treated it as an aided case.

The call came in at 4:24 p.m. Saturday and, per standard operating procedure, Southampton's finest showed up to assist emergency medical personnel.

Dancing Hodgepodge Begets High Scores

With only seven contestants left, dances were pulled out of the hat more randomly than ever.

From Argentine tango and waltz to samba and cha-cha, the remaining celebs continued to Hough and puff and hoof it out in what were their longest individual routines yet and the first group dance—a tribute to the swingin' '60s—of the season.

And what a hoot that group number was, with each contestant having to come up with a signature move (look out for Ty Murray's "Groovy Rider") and then suiting up in his or her Austin Powers finest for some retro go-go action. Surprisingly, no one was dropped on his or her head, and Derek Hough stole the show. (He does that sometimes.)

Slumdog Millionaire Kid Star Put Up for Sale by Father?

In an attempt to escape the real-life slums of Mumbai, the father of Slumdog Millionaire sweetie Rubina Ali is reportedly trying to illegally sell his 9-year-old daughter for about $300,000.

Rafiq Qureshi unknowingly spoke to the British tabloid News of the World and offered several shocking allegations as to why chasing in on his daughter's fame is acceptable.

"We've got nothing out of [Slumdog Millionaire]." claims Qureshi. "They gave some money at the start, but they gave nothing afterwards. They gave us around 150,000 rupees [$3,000]. I have to consider what's best for me, my family and Rubina's future."

But his allegations run counter to statements from filmmakers and local officials.

Madonna Hospitalized Following Horseplay, Blames Paparazzi

Maybe it's time Madonna just hung up her saddle.

The Material Mom logged some time in a Long Island hospital after falling off her horse during a weekend ride in the Hamptons—an incident her publicist blames on shutterbugs.

"The accident occurred when the horse Madonna was riding was startled by paparazzi who jumped out of the bushes to photograph the singer," spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg tells E! News.

However, according to the New York Post, which has exclusive photos of Madonna's outing, no photographer was near her at the time of the spill. The newspaper also claims she was jumping hurdles prior to the tumble and that purported boyfriend Jesus Luz was among those rushing to her aid.

The 50-year-old pop icon was released after being treated for "minor injuries and bruises" at Southampton Hospital, says Rosenberg.

Britney Spears' Peeper Defends Her Snooping

As Britney Spears continues her Circus tour throughout California this week, Spears' alleged trespasser Miranda Tozier-Robbins spoke exclusively to E! News about why she snuck onto the pop star's property and the reason she believes things have been blown out of proportion.

Tozier-Robbins, 26, is a former American Idol hopeful who says she has been in Los Angeles for about a month and a half and is actively pursing an entertainment industry career in numerous fields, one being paparazzi-like documentary filmmaking.

According to Tozier-Robbins, Britney's house was simply chosen because of its convenient location and perfect timing—she knew Spears would be in L.A. for her tour this week and apparently her address is available online.

"The documentary is more or less just, [me] on the way to Britney's house, going on the bicycle ride, the camping out in the woods," says Tozier-Robbins.

While she confesses to being a fan of Spears, Tozier-Robbins claims that she is in no way a stalker. "There's no obsession with Britney. Somebody else can go ahead and claim the title of Britney's stalker, because I sure as heck don't want it, you know!"

Once on the property, Tozier-Robbins was immediately caught by a Spears security guard and arrested for trespassing. She received a citation and was released.

But Tozier-Robbins tells E! that she would do something like this again in the future—minus the trespassing.

Bollywood gears up for big budget releases in 2009

One of the most anticipated Bollywood films of 2009 is Shah Rukh Khan's home production "Billu Barber".

Powered by the success of two movies featuring the two leading Khans -- Shah Rukh and Aamir -- at the fag end of the year 2008, Bollywood has stepped into the New Year with lots of hopes on an array of big-budget movies to set the box office on fire.

Three Bengali films by internationally acclaimed directors Buddhadeb Dasgupta and Rituparno Ghosh are also slated for release in 2009. While Dasgupta comes up with "Janala", Ghosh will give us "Kalponik" and "Abohoman".

The strong ticket collection of Shah Rukh-starrer "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" and "Ghajini", which sees Aamir in the lead role, in the last two months of the previous year has ushered in strong optimism in the industry which hopes to be back on its feet soon after liquidity crunch hit the Bollywood in the second half of 2008.

The first six months of the New Year will have nearly a dozen big-budget multi-starrer movies lining up Shah Rukh, Aamir, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Hrithik Roshan.

The year begins with Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone's "Chandni Chowk to China" which is an action comedy about a naive cook from Delhi's Chandni Chowk locality who is mistaken for a reincarnation of an ancient peasant warrior by residents of a village in China.

Akshay Kumar's recent releases are estimated to have earned more than Rs 500 crore at the box office and also plays lead roles in two more movies to be released this year -- "Kambakth Ishq" opposite Kareena Kapoor and "Blue".

One of the most anticipated Bollywood films of 2009 will be Shah Rukh's home production "Billu Barber", a remake of a hit Malayalam movie, and Karan Johar's "My Name is Khan". Both films will star Shah Rukh.

Directed by Priyadarshan, "Billu Barber", which also stars Irrfan Khan and Lara Dutta, will be seen with keen interest by Shah Rukh's fans to find out if the actor's magic works as Tamil film industry super star Rajnikanth's remake of the same film last year failed to click at the box office.

"Billu Barber" is the story of friendship between a top film star played by Shah Rukh, and a common man played by Irrfan, and is set for release in the first quarter of 2009.

Aamir Khan too will be in spotlight with Rajkumar Hirani's "3 Idiots", which is based on writer Chetan Bhagat's bestseller English novel "Five Point Someone", and "Dhobi Ghat". In "Dhobi Ghat" that marks the directorial debut of the actor's wife Kiran Rao, Aamir plays the role of a painter. Hirani's film sees Kareena as the heroine.

Besides, Aamir has his home production "Delhi Belly" featuring his nephew Imran who had made his debut last year with successful "Jaane Tu Ya Jaaney Na".

Salman, who had a bad spell in 2008 at the box office, will try his luck this year in "Main Aur Mrs Khanna" opposited Kareena and in "London Dreams" with Ajay Devgan and newcomer Telugu actress Asin who shot into limelight with her Hindi film debut in Aamir-starrer "Ghajini".

Abshishek, whose performance in "Dostana" last year earned good reviews, features in Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra's "Delhi 6" and Hrithik appears in his home production "Kites" and Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut "Luck by Chance".

Besides the big budget movies, there is this year Ashutosh Gowariker's "What's Your Rashee" in which actress Priyanka Chopra is reportedly playing 12 roles depicting as many star signs.

Buoyed by the success of his debut as an actor in "Rock On" last year, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar is appearing again on the screen in his sister Zoya-directed "Luck By Chance" which is expected to hit the screens on January 30.

The plot of the film is centred on Bollywood and how people from different walks of life go to Mumbai to make it big in an industry where luck often plays a bigger role than hard work. Produced and distributed by Big Pictures, the movie also features Juhi Chawla, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia.
